This is the forest-steppe vicariant of alpina which is found in Romania only in a single island in the western part of Tarnave Tableland (Bagau-Lopadea Noua-Cicard-Beta-Ocnita area) where it is a common species on the steep sunny slopes along with Haplophyllum suaveolens and Globularia bisnagarica. These populations are the western most in the whole range of the species.
